Q: Why should I hire a professional writer?
A: You're more likely to achieve the results you want by hiring a professional writer who is skilled in crafting effective copy—often under time constraints—while also performing time-intensive tasks such as research, editing, meetings and more. It saves you time and money, allows you to concentrate on your priorities and frees up your existing staff (particularly if a non-writer has been tasked with doing the writing).
Q: I already have a writer(s) on staff. Why would I consider a freelance writer like you?
A: There are several good reasons why you can have an outside writer like me even when you have a staff writer.
- If your writer ever goes on vacation or is out sick and you have a critical deadline to meet, just call me to help out.
- If your business becomes inundated with overlapping projects at one time, it can overwhelm a staff writer. I can take on some of the writing to relieve them. Their stress level goes down, and their own writing is better for it.
- If your staff writer isn't familiar with a particular subject matter, contracting with an outside writer who has such expertise or who has time to research it can ensure you meet your deadline.
- If you don't have a need for a full-time writer (or multiple ones), relying on a copywriter on a contract basis can be very cost-effective for you.
Q: Can you recommend a graphic designer? Web designer?
A: Absolutely! I work with several experienced pros in those areas whom I can either refer to you or bring directly into the project. Together we provide a seamless approach to our projects. Hiring experts could help you realize a much higher return on your marketing dollar than trying to hire that very rare person who has all these design and writing skills (and who knows the latest technology and software on top of that). And, I can also recommend several trustworthy, good printers who've done great work on projects I've been involved with.
Q: Do you work from your own office or are you able to work at our site?
A: I work best from my own office, where I can write and research long past your own office's hours. In fact, 99% of my clients have preferred this, and it's worked beautifully. The advantage to you: no need to find a computer, chair or desk for me. However, I'm more than happy to get together with you at your office or elsewhere to meet other project team members, go over project details or revisions, or to have brainstorming sessions.
Q: What are your rates?
A: I normally charge on a per-project basis, so you know upfront what to budget for the writing component. Simply provide your project's details and I'll give you a free, no-obligation written estimate. If you prefer to work on an hourly basis, I can do that, too. Keep in mind that rates take into account everything that is necessary to write: meetings, competitor research, product/topic research, conceptualizing, rough drafts and editing/revising. Plus, I offer 15+ years of writing experience, timely turnaround and friendly customer service.
Q: Do you offer discount rates?
A: I offer discounts to qualified non-profits.
Q: Why do you specialize in writing for the wine industry?
A: I have a passion for both words and wine, so the two are a natural pairing for me. I've written professionally for 15 years, while my interest in wine has developed considerably over the last several years. Sure, wine is a fun subject, but I take it very seriously: I've accumulated a growing library of wine tomes, and earned my Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW) credential. All of this makes my writing even more effective, which ultimately benefits you as a client.
